The Impeachment of George W. Bush

Finally, it has started. People have begun to speak of impeaching President George W. Bush--not in hushed whispers but openly, in newspapers, on the Internet, in ordinary conversations and even in Congress. As a former member of Congress who sat on the House Judiciary Committee during the impeachment proceedings against President Richard Nixon,
 I believe they are right to do so.
I can still remember the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach during those proceedings, when it became clear that the President had so systematically abused the powers of the presidency and so threatened the rule of law that he had to be removed from office. As a Democrat who opposed many of President Nixon's policies, I still found voting for his impeachment to be one of the most sobering and unpleasant tasks I ever had to undertake. None of the members of the committee took pleasure in voting for impeachment; after all, Democrat or Republican, Nixon was still our President.
At the time, I hoped that our committee's work would send a strong signal to future Presidents
 that they had to obey the rule of law. I was wrong.
Like many others, I have been deeply troubled by Bush's breathtaking scorn for our international treaty obligations under the United Nations Charter and the Geneva Conventions. I have also been disturbed by the torture scandals and the violations of US criminal laws at the highest levels of our government...
... No President can be permitted to commit high crimes and misdemeanors with impunity.
But impeachment and removal from office will not happen unless the American people are convinced of its necessity after a full and fair inquiry into the facts and law is conducted. That inquiry must commence now.
Warrantless Wiretaps
On December 17 President Bush acknowledged that he repeatedly authorized wiretaps, without obtaining a warrant, of American citizens engaged in international calls. On the face of it, these warrantless wiretaps violate FISA, which requires court approval for national security wiretaps and sets up a special procedure for obtaining it. Violation of the law is a felony.
While many facts about these wiretaps are unknown, it now appears that thousands of calls were monitored and that the information obtained may have been widely circulated among federal agencies. It also appears that a number of government officials considered the warrantless wiretaps of dubious legality.
 Reportedly, several people in the National Security Agency refused to participate in them...

George Washington, General of the American Revolutionary Army and first President of the United States, clearly stated the concern of many 18th century colonists regarding government power; "government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force.  Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master". 
However perceived, the statement was never translated into constitutional prohibitions against unlimited government force to kill or imprison any human being it chose by the process of its own workings. In all cases, the Constitution reserved to the government the power to threaten, coerce, and intimidate its own people to support its fiery will.
  While a private organization may grow powerful through voluntary means  such as by consumer purchase of its products or services - the government amassed and maintained armed might by the use or threat of deadly force, even to imposing Martial Law, a Police State, and "concentration" camps for its citizens. 
Many Americans were made obedient to the federal Master by fear, in violation of the timeless spiritual wisdom that "you must always labor to persuade human minds, but never dare to compel them".
With no serious constitutional prohibitions, the U.S. has spent over 225 years in deadly overt and covert operations leading unattached observers to conclude the U.S. was helping to create a World Empire for a gang of

Minnesota Ghost
This happened about a month ago just outside of Willmar, a little town in the back country of Minnesota, and while it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it's real.
This out-of-state traveler was on the side of the road, hitchhiking on a real dark night in the middle of a thunderstorm. Time passed slowly and no cars went by. It was raining so hard he could hardly see his hand in front of his face.
Suddenly he saw a car moving slowly, approaching and appearing ghostlike in the rain.
 It slowly and silently crept toward him and stopped.
Wanting a ride really bad the guy jumped in the car and closed the door; only then did he realize that there was nobody behind the wheel, and no sound of an engine to be heard over the rain.
Again the car crept slowly forward and the guy was terrified, too  scared to think of jumping out and running. The guy saw that the car was approaching a sharp curve and, still too scared to jump out, he started to pray and began begging for his life; he was sure the ghost car would go off the road  and into a nearby lake and he would surely drown!
But just before the curve a shadowy figure appeared at the driver's window and a hand reached in and turned the steering wheel, guiding the car safely around the bend. Then, just as silently, the hand disappeared through the window and the hitchhiker was alone again!
Paralyzed with fear, the guy watched the hand reappear every time they reached a curve. Finally the guy, scared to near death, had all he could take and jumped out of the car and ran and ran, into town, into  Willmar.
Wet and in shock, he went into a bar and voice quavering, ordered two shots of whiskey,
then told everybody about his supernatural experience.
A silence enveloped the place and everybody got goose bumps when they realized the guy had to be
 telling the truth (and was not just some drunk).
About half an hour later two guys walked into the bar and one says to  the other,
"Look Ole, ders dat idiot that rode in our car when we wuz  pushin it in the rain."

FAILURE
The U.S. Constitution allowed money interests to take control of the nation's money supply and manipulate it, resulting in a loss of purchasing power for all Americans.
John Maynard Keynes, influential British economist of the early 1900's, said there was a process by which the forces of economic law could destroy a society, and few people were informed enough to diagnose it:  "There is no subtler, no surer way of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency".
U.S. money was slowly corrupted as if Keynes' idea was put into  practice against the better judgment of many prominent people, including President Thomas Jefferson (1801-09); "If the American people ever allow the banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around them will deprive the people of all their property...".
In disregard to many opponents, in 1913 U.S. lawmakers authorized some powerful bankers - under the Federal Reserve Act - to "control the issuance" (out of nothing), and over time the nations paper currency  was made non-redeemable in silver, or "hard" money, as formerly guaranteed on the face of it. The words "silver certificate" and "payable to the bearer on demand" were removed and, instead, the valueless words "Federal Reserve Note" appeared on the nation's paper money.
Inflation became a matter of ongoing concern for the American people as the purchasing power of each dollar (100 cents) fell to about ten cents over the last half of the 1900's.
Economists agreed that unsupported "note" value set by mere fiat, or arbitrary decree, would be worthless if the economy collapsed forcing people to surrender all their property to holders of liens in payment  of debt.
 There would be no backup of silver previously promised.
