I read this the other day on my msg board
On Wednesday night, Secretary Rice was booed by some audience members at "Spamalot!," the Monty Python musical at the Shubert, when the lights went up after the performance.

Yesterday, Rice went shopping at Ferragamo on Fifth Ave. According to the Web site http://www.Gawker.com, the 50-year-old bought "several thousand dollars' worth of shoes" at the pricey leather-goods boutique.

A fellow shopper shouted, "How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!" - presumably referring to Louisiana and Mississippi.

The woman expressing her First Amendment rights was promptly removed from the store. A Ferragamo store manager confirmed to us that Rice did shop there yesterday, but refused to answer questions about whether the protester was removed, and whether by his own security or the Secret Service.

Actor Penn accuses Bush over Katrina
The US government was accused of "criminal negligence" today as hopes of finding survivors faded and the death toll from Hurricane Katrina continued to rise.

Holidaymakers returning to the UK spoke of the scale of the misery while one said leering police officers demanded young women flash their breasts in return for help.

Oscar-winning Hollywood actor Sean Penn, who has been assisting rescue efforts in New Orleans, said the US government did not "seem to be inclined to help".

"We were pulling drowning people out of the water, it`s the ultimate distress and human suffering
 ... dead bodies," he told GMTV.

Penn said he had spent nine hours yesterday searching the water for people and during all that time he saw just three boats carrying US officials.

"There are people that are dying right now and I mean babies and old people and everybody in between - they`re dying.

"There are people dying and (the US government are) not putting the ******* boats in the water,
 I think that`s criminal negligence.

"I don`t think anybody ever anticipated the criminal negligence
of the Bush administration in this situation."

Penn, who has spent time filming in the area in the past, said the US national guard were doing a "fantastic job" but there just were not enough of them.

He also called for the US government to ask for more financial help as well as extra medical assistance.
"The US government doesn`t seem to be inclined to help, nearly on the level that has to happen," he said.

"We need doctors at every launch place, not only for the rescuees but for the rescue workers because as we come in off the boats, which are contaminated by that water, a lot of these people are disoriented,
you can`t get the boats right up so you have to go into the water.

"Sometimes the helicopters overhead, with all their good intentions, can sometimes make for difficulties.

"They often draw us to where people are, so you see where a helicopter is overhead but when you get there it's churning the water so much that people are going under."

At one stage, Mr Scott, 36, had to wade through filthy water to barricade the hotel doors against looters.
He told the Liverpool Daily Post: "I could not have a lower opinion of the authorities, from the police officers on the street right up to George Bush.
"I couldn't describe how bad the authorities were. Just little things like taking photographs of us, as we are standing on the roof waving for help, for their own little snapshot albums.
"At one point, there were a load of girls on the roof of the hotel saying "Can you help us?" and the policemen said Show us what you've got and made signs for them to lift their T-shirts.
"When the girls refused, they said "Fine" and motored off down the road in their boat."
However, Mr Scott stressed that many ordinary American people were kind and generous.
He added: "The American people saved us. I wish I could say the same for the American authorities."

Some of you may have seen Dr. Charles Burnell telling Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren that six or seven people had been murdered and over a dozen raped
*inside the superdome* in just two days.

The British and Australian media are reporting that among those murdered are a 14 year old girl who was gang raped to death over a four hour period. A seven year old boy was raped and murdered. A seven year old girl was raped. Several witnesses reported teenage girls being raped in the bathrooms.

We're still here... we haven't been moved with the masses. Wanted to give you a webpage to our daily newspaper here in Jackson... http://www.clarionledger.com  Has a lot of photos, stories, etc., in case you wanted to read about or see this "bad spot" we're in... terribly sad. One soldier who returned from Iraq, of late, said that New Orleans is as bad as the streets in Iraq, if not worse. We need our men and women back home... period... we have our own business to take care of here... now and before then! Billy's son has been "on the beach front" since the day before the hurricane came... gave out water, food, and ice the first few days. This week, they sent his unit in to "search and recover" bodies... they are floating in stench-smelling liquid they are calling water... some bodies are hanging on trees where they said their last prayer. This will certainly be a learning experience for my 20 year old step-son. So far, 5 residents have died from cholera-like diseases... disease is running rampant. It's worse than the media is showing... much worse.

We're plugging along though... doing what we can for who we can. We've doubled our population here... children needing to be in school and parents who need jobs and a place to call "home" again. Our hearts have been broken but the spirit within is strong... has to be if you want to survive... I went home Friday in tears... the heartbreak is tough on old sappy folks.

They managed to get our electricity back on Friday night... we were camping out in our carport, sleeping in the back of the truck. Had a huge brush pile fire going... the most light we'd had in the neighborhood before the lights went out on Monday. Neighbors came over, folks grilled what they could with the food from thawed freezer, tired of keeping generators going to keep from loosing what was in their freezers. But then gas became a problem, of which, one had to wait 3-6 hours in line or you just didn't get a chance to get any... it got rather expensive and was totally nerve rackin' to sit and wait and only be able to get $20-$25. And too, if you weren't sittin' on the gas can with a gun on your hip, someone would steal it right out from under you... people were getting cussed and shot!!  No one went anywhere for a while there, especially while everyone was in the dark... it was WILD!! We're still under a curfew here...
